Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice calls for votes for a share of Tesco’s bag fund

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice is bidding to bag a cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

Three organisations in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice is one of the organisations on the shortlist.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice is a community-based hospice service providing support for babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families in North and Central London and Hertsmere.

The charity is currently constructing a state-of-the-art hospice building, The Ark, due to open in spring 2019. The Ark will offer a range of children’s palliative care services that are not currently available including; sensory, music and wet play rooms, a drop-in facility for families, overnight stays to help manage a young person’s symptoms and 24-hour end-of-life-care, including specialised care for new-born babies.

Alison Goodman, Director of Income Generation and Communications, explained: “We will use the funding to buy a wheelchair see-saw for seriously unwell children to enjoy the outdoors with their friends and family in their local children’s hospice. In 2017 Noah’s Ark began constructing a children’s hospice building called The Ark. This is set on a 7.5 acre nature reserve, enabling children and families to experience the immersive outdoors. The Ark’s Play Zone, a fully accessible outdoor play area will allow these children to enjoy time in a natural environment. The wheelchair see-saw will be a vital item in the play zone, giving children the chance to participate in energetic and inclusive play, allowing them the time and space to be children and not just patients.”

Voting is open in all Tesco stores from 1 November until 31 December 2018 and customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop.

Tesco’s Bags of Help project has already delivered over £60 million to more than 18,000 projects across Britain. Tesco customers get the chance to vote for three different groups every time they shop. Every other month, when votes are collected, three groups in each of Tesco’s regions will be awarded funding.

Alec Brown, Head of Community at Tesco, said: “Bags of Help has been a success and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response from customers. It’s such a special scheme because it’s local people who decide how the money will be spent in their community. There are some fantastic projects on the shortlists and we can’t wait to see these come to life in hundreds of communities.”

Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund local projects that bring benefits to communities. Anyone can nominate a project and organisations can apply online. To find out more visit www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp.
