Life and Work after Motherhood

Life & Work after Motherhood

What happened to my life?

As the old saying goes (well my paraphrased version) “Everything changes when you become a parent”.

In the blink of an eye you can no longer do any of the following;

Literally everything in your life takes a 360 turn when you have children, but is it all bad?

I personally like to take a positive view of the changes that have come after motherhood; I left my 9-5 and started my own business, I moved to a lovely area for the school’s and to be honest I am the happiest I have ever been.

This is not the case for everyone, so what I want to do is give you some encouragement to get that life that you want.

When I became a mum, it made me look at every area of my life especially my work, as this would affect the time I had with and for my children.

I had aspired to go into full-time entrepreneurship for a number of years now and having kids really gave me the motivation to finally take the plunge.

For some women the changes that parenthood bring is what makes them relook & rethink what they are doing with their lives. Especially if you are in a job you are no longer in love with, or one they is not feasible for the life you want to live.

Most women start to think about the possibility of career change and or becoming at SAHM (stay at home mum) when thinking about starting a family, however it actually happens a lot after the fact.

Should I go back to work? I want more time with the kids, Do I have to go back to that job? I have no idea what to do or even how to get there!

It is common for mums to feel trapped in an unsatisfying and unfulfilling career after having kids, because they believe they are lacking the time, the finances to retrain or even the thought of start over from the ground up scares them. And then there’s the fact that many of us just don’t know what type of work we’d rather do.

So just where should we start when a career change is on the menu?

Know Your Strengths

Understanding your strengths.

The more you know yourself the more confident you will become and the better you will be at identify the right role for you and projecting yourself in order to get it.

Make sure that you get right to the core of it; spend a good amount of time exploring this area of your life. I have to say when I got down and dirty with this everything became clearer for me and the magic started happening.

Ask For Help

This is pretty self-explanatory, you could ask family, friends, peers, and your manager. Another way is to get professional help, like a coach or mentor.

I absolutely could never have got to where I am today without my coach and mentor.
